Hanginan is not just a tourist destination to us. It is a tradition that we will pass from generations to generations
Welcome to Hanginan - one of Maasin Citys’ well-known barangay. It is famous as it houses the miraculous chapel of St. Francis Xavier (known as the co-founder of the Society of Jesus, companion of St. Ignatius of Loyola and one of the first seven Jesuits who took vows of poverty and chastity at Montmartre, Paris in1534).
This chapel is believed to be a phenomenon as people who have been here claimed that every petition and prayer spoken were granted and answered.
ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CHAPEL
Last year, we went here as I got to spend a 5-day vacation in my grandparents’ house at Barangay Caridad Norte, Matalom Leyte. From the said barangay, it only takes us 30-40 minutes travel upon reaching the starting point of Hanginan, Maasin City. From there, we started to hike for about 2-3 hours before reaching the chapel of St. Francis Xavier. Although there is an option to ride a motorcycle (usually called habal-habal) that will take you from almost middle part of the mountain, we chose to walk as our ancestors says, "the more sacrifice you make, the more answered prayer you’ll get".
When tired, hungry or thirsty, no need to worry as there are lots of stores that you’ll pass by on your way to the summit. The best food here that I got to try every time I climb is the “bibingka”. It is very affordable and delicious that makes it Hanginans’ specialty. Different chips, viand, desserts, beverages, etc. are also available in the store. We also bought souvenirs like oil (for massage), hat, t-shirt, kids dress, towel, etc.
SCENIC VIEW FROM THE TOP
This was the breathtaking view on top of Hanginan as we witness the sun rising and as it was about to set. Skies were clear, the air was fresh, and surroundings are all green.
The view was priceless, indeed.

GROUPIE MOMENT <3
This is indeed a sacred success for the year 2016 as Hanginan is not just a tourist destination to us. It is a tradition that we will pass from generations to generations.
This has to be done not to ask for anything but to simply give thanks for all the blessing that had come, still coming and about to come in our life.
This belief made our bond stronger. It made us realized that through thick and thin, in sickness and in health, and in good times or bad times, our family are just too tight to split apart.

Now, let me tell you this straight from the heart, this is indeed our pride. Eastern Visayas – Region VIIIs' pride.
Just always bring Filipino Hospitality everywhere!
