Beneath Bauan: A Diving Experience

Batangas, as most of the locals know, is popular for its spectacular cuisines, numerous beaches, and divine diving spots and one of these diving spots can be found at the simple municipality of Bauan, Batangas.
Bauan is a first class municipality in Batangas that hides a few paradises up its sleeves, especially for the diving enthusiasts.  Just 2-hours drive from Metro Manila, you can laze away at beach resorts from countless unnamed beaches here such as Ligpo Island, a scuba diving and beach spot, there's also Binukbok View Point which is popular for snorkeling, and the most wonderful sealife of all is at Dive & Trek Marine Sanctuary.
I've been reading a lot of reviews that Bauan's beaches aren't good at all, indeed they were right. You won't have a pristine-white-sanded-beach here, it's mostly rocky, to be honest, but Bauan doesn't brag with beaches. They pride themselves with diving spots that will indeed astound you.
We started our day tour to Bauan at 6 AM with, of course, a drive from metro along the long serene provincial road. We had a quick breakfast stop along Laguna expressway and not long after we arrived at Seahouse Dive Resort at around 8:30 AM. We did a quick outfit change and briefing at the resort then sailed away to our first island hopping stop.

Unnamed Beach in Bauan
I'm not even kidding here. This beach that we stopped by for a quick dip doesn't have a name. I asked the locals but no one can give me the specifics.
There are a few resorts on this beach and it was packed with locals making the most of the summer (Oh, we went last April 2019, by the way). The beach is rocky and seemed accessible via a boat only as I couldn't see any road behind the resorts. There were available beach huts, a floating hut owned by one of the resort's which is a perfect spot for an afternoon sunset show, and of course what makes the island lively are the ball activities by the beach and music coming from a videoke.

The water is clear and at shallow depths, you can already see a few coral gardens. Though we didn't spend much of our time here, it was a nice small beach for a quick dip or lunch stopover.

Snorkeling at Marine Sanctuary
Located at near Bonukbok View Point, this marine sanctuary is for me the best snorkeling spot I have ever been to.
We picked the best time to snorkel as there were various fishes around our boat so it was less effort to snorkel. From the plain small ones up to the huge and multicolored fishes (sorry I'm not good with fish names), they were all swimming around us.
Plus there was a school of Bigeye Trevally fishes which was exciting enough trying to get near them and playfully break their wall.

Scuba Diving Experience
The main highlight that made my day.
It wasn't my first time to scuba dive, though I'm not a pro, I've always loved discovering what's hidden in the dark depths of the sea. And Bauan, doesn't disappoint when it comes to diving. At 5m deep, we've already seen sea turtles. How amazing is that? To think these sea creatures are a bit shy to the world.  Then at 20m deep, we've reached our destination, a flourishing garden of sea, filled with colorful fishes, and vast blooming corals.
We took about 20 mins underwater, but due to the cold temperature as we get deeper, we decided to cut the dive and head back up.
We wrap our day with a late family style Korean lunch back at the resort. Then head back to Manila via Taal where we stopped over some of the heritage sites in Taal.
So that's one way to spend your weekend in Batangas. If you're all for beaches getaway, then head west to Anilao or to Nasugbu for that! However, if it's pristine dive sites, then you better not miss Bauan Batangas' gems!
