A Guide to Philippine Airports’ Terminal Fees

If you got a plan on visiting the Philippines, one island at a time, you better start preparing now for that epic vacation, ‘cause who wouldn’t want a hassle free travel right?
Since the Philippines is an archipelago, you’ll encounter various modes of transportation to reach each of its islands. The most common transfer is via air travel. Though some flights might be costly, but it’s your best option if faster travel time is what you need.

So, before your big travel day, we’re here to give you a quick guide on fees that you need to pay at the airports:

What is the Airport Terminal Fee?
Also known as “Philippine Passenger Service Charge”, it’s the airport tax/ exit fee collected from passengers departing from Philippine Airports. For domestic flights, the fee ranges from P 50 - P 200 per person, while P 550 - P 700 for international flights.

Below is the list of major Philippine (PH) airports and infos on when and where you need to pay the Terminal Fees:

How to know if the Terminal Fee is already included in the ticket?
On your booking receipt or when you’re booking your air ticket, you may check it at the breakdown of taxes and fees. Usually, it’s labeled as DPSC (Domestic Passenger Service Charge), IPSC (International Passenger Service Charge), or PH Passenger Service Charge.

Are there exemptions from paying Terminal Fees?
Yes, infants below 2 years old on the date of travel and guests connecting through Philippine airports except Manila, Cebu and, Caticlan (Boracay) are exempted from paying the said fee. Those exempted also include athletes endorsed by the Philippine Sports Commission and pilgrims endorsed by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.

Is it the same from the Philippine Travel Tax?
No, the Philippine Travel Tax and Terminal fee are separate charges. But, if you’re a foreigner traveling in the Philippines on a short visit or simply transiting you don’t have to worry about paying this one. It is imposed by the government and only collected from Filipinos traveling abroad and foreign passport holders who stayed in the Philippines for over a year upon existing date of departure. Exempted from paying the Philippine Travel Tax are the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), infants (2 years old and below), and a Filipino who is a permanent resident abroad staying in the Philippines is less than a year.

Whether you’re traveling abroad or domestic, be mindful of the other things that you might have to pay during your trip. Other than having a well-planned itinerary don’t forget to keep a secure allowance for these necessary fees for a smooth and well-budgeted trip.
