Over the past months, the New Bohol International Airport has been making a buzz in the whole Philippine tourism and aviation industry. Though it faced several delays, it’s now set to open today, November 27, 2018.

Just like everyone else, we couldn’t help but feel all excited and ready for it to be fully operational. But before rushing around, packing stuffs, and booking your flight, here’s what you should know about the new gateway to “God’s little paradise”.

1.
Since it’ll replace Tagbilaran Airport, it’s designed to accommodate around two million passengers per year, more than double the capacity of the current airport can hold. Plus, seven aircrafts can be accommodated all at the same time with its apron including larger aircrafts for direct international flights.

2.
It wasn’t called an “eco-airport” for nothing, aiming to be environmental-friendly, they used sustainable structures, a world-class water treatment facility, natural ventilation, and solar panels on its roofs to cover one-third of the airport’s energy requirement. Talk about having regards with nature?

3.
It’s not just the beach resorts in Panglao that will be made more accessible, but Bohol Island itself to the whole country! It is also less than an hour flight from Mactan-Cebu International Airport, which is a gateway to Central Philippines.

Being one of the premium destinations in the Philippine, this modernized hub is expected to boost more tourism growth in the province. A stepping stone towards the development and a higher standard for the country’s regional airports, that’s a great thing to look forward to, right?

Bohol Island is located in the Visayas, the country’s tenth largest island and one of the highly urbanized provinces from the three (3) that composes Region VII. Dubbed as “God’s Little Paradise” and home to the iconic Chocolate Hills, Bohol has been one of the premium destinations in the Philippines alongside Boracay, Cebu, and Puerto Princesa.
Believe it or not, Bohol may look like a small island looking at the map, but an array of adventure and sightseeing places can be found on this island, both known and unknown. They pride themselves as one of the provinces with the best eco-tourism, historical, and cultural wonders being most of their activities highlighting each municipality’s nature’s best.

So probably for a long time now Bohol has been on your "bucket list", right? Not all of us are an aficionado of making a list or planning, but as a first-time traveler to a destination, it's a mus to make a list of our plans. Like the basic stuff on where to eat, what to do, and where to stay just so you make the most of your time.
To make it easier for you, we’re here to give you an easy itinerary recommendation as a first-time visitor to Bohol. One traveler's helping hand to another, to make your vacation comfortable and worth the stay!

Getting to Bohol
There are two (2) ways of getting to Bohol:

BY AIR
Travel time to Tagbilaran City (TAG) from Manila (MNL) takes 1 hour and 30 minutes fly time with over eight (8) flights daily. To maximize your time, we recommended flying with Philippines Airlines (PAL) with flight details:

VIA PAL MNL-TAG 0845H – 1000H
VIA PAL TAG-MNL 1635H – 1730H

Especially for the international flight, PALs timings is just right for connecting flights with enough free time to rest upon arrival and prior to departure. If you're into inter-island adventure, Tagbilaran Airport is accessible with direct flights from Davao and Clark via Philippine Airlines.

BY SEA
Bohol Island can also be accessed via fastcraft coming from Cebu (CEB). With only 2 hours of travel time, Cebu & Bohol has become a twin-city destination for those travelers who wanted to experience the best of both cities. We recommend taking Oceanjet with timings:

VIA OCEANJET  CEB-TAG 0920H – 1120H | 1040H – 1240H
VIA OCEANJET  TAG-CEB 1400H – 1600H | 1520H – 1720H

Oceanjet offers a hassle-free, smooth, and comfortable travel to and from Tagbilaran to make it in time for check-ins and spend the rest of your time lounging.

Travel Itinerary

 Day 1
Upon arriving, get one of our transport service representatives to pick you up from the Airport or Seaport. You'll be transferred to your preferred resort/hotel for check-in. Afterward, feel free to enjoy your time resting at the comforts of your hotel room, or strolling by Alona Beach, perhaps an afternoon Parasail.

 Day 2
On your second day, we recommend a tour around the countryside tour with Bohol Choco Countryside Tour. Your day will start at 0900H where our local guide will take you at Bohol's historic Blood Compact and Baclayon Church. You'll also visit the largest python for a close encounter and a well-manicured garden filled with colorful butterflies at the Python and Butterfly Sanctuary.

To fill your tummies, we’re taking you to dine on board a floating restaurant at Loboc, where you cruise as you indulge scrumptious Filipino cuisine while being serenaded.

Once you're full, get ready to continue the tour and make your way through the Man-made Mahogany Forest where you'll appreciate a fall-inspired forest. And of course, saving it for last, fill your camera with the picturesque view of the Chocolate Hills atop a viewing deck.

We'll let you enjoy the rest of the day with a visit to a souvenir shop or around the city. To add thrill on your day, you can also do an optional All-Terrain-Vehicle (ATV) tour to get up close the mountains OR zip away crossing over Loboc River at Loboc Ecotourism Adventure Park.

If you’re staying at Alona area, why not grab a drink or two at one of the restobars in the area. We heard Outback Bar Grill has one of the best baby back ribs!

 Day 3
Your Philippine adventure won't be complete without an island hopping activity; hence Dolphin Watching & Bohol Island Hopping is our recommended being the most popular. In this tour, you’ll have to wake up as early as 0500H to catch the friendliest cetaceans playing around their natural playground. After the Dolphin stopover, you'll visit Balicasag Island for a few hours of snorkeling in
the Marine Sanctuary's clear water and vigorous coral garden.
If you're lucky, you can also get a glimpse of sea turtles swimming around the area.  You'll be provided with a rustic hut where you'll take your seafood lunch by the beach.

Your afternoon will be spent at the Virgin Island, a lengthy white-sand sandbar. A very sought-after sea oasis where you can lounge, play volleyball, or snorkel on the nearby marine sanctuary.

We'll let you enjoy the rest of the day with a visit to Alona Beach or why not try Parasailing or Firefly Watching Activity

Can’t decide where to dine? For an organic and tasty meal, try Bohol Bee Farm Restaurant at Dao area or Buzz Café at Alona Beach. Don’t forget to complete your meal with a taste of one of their homemade organic ice creams! Try the Dragon Fruit flavor!

 Day 4
The last day would be a day on your own, so feel free to roam around Tagbilaran City or Panglao Island. Do a little souvenir shopping to take home a piece of Bohol crafts and delicacies. Just don't forget to check-out and get to the airport on time so you won't miss your flight.
If you are leaving in the afternoon, bid farewell to Bohol with style and enjoy your local and international fusion cuisine at Safron Café (Amorita) or Paprika Restaurant (Donatella Hotel) for a perfect view of the sea as you dine.
